Campaign to Protect Rural England - Somerset

Wind turbines

Wind turbines are tall moving structures which inevitably have an impact over very large areas.

In Somerset in recent years we have seen a steady trickle of applications for single turbines scattered around the countryside, usually on high ground such as the Mendip ridge. We try hard to judge any proposals on their individual merits but we are concerned about the "pin-cushion effect" on our landscapes if these individual schemes are all separately granted permission.

The CPRE report: "Generating light on landscape impacts: How to accommodate onshore wind while protecting the countryside", makes a number of proposals for action.
