Star Count 2019

Star Count 2019 Star Count 2019

Dark, starry skies are one of the most magical sights the countryside can offer. But light pollution means many of us can’t see the stars. Help us reclaim our dark skies. Take part in our #StarCount2019

The Star Count is running from 2-23 February 2019, but the darkest skies are expected 2-9 February, when the moon will be smallest.

Here’s how to take part in @CPRE's #StarCount2019 - a cosmic census to map light pollution.

1. Find the constellation of Orion in the night sky
2. Count the stars you see within the rectangle formed by the 4 corner stars
3. Submit your results: http://www.cpre.org.uk/starcount

You can do this from anywhere in England. We’ll use the information to create a new map of the nation’s view of the night sky. Star Count 2019 is being run in partnership wth the British Astronomical Association.
